Missing Woman’s Body Located in Water off Rocky Neck in Gloucester

GLOUCESTER — Chief Leonard Campanello and the Gloucester Police Department regret to report that, as the result of a coordinated search involving multiple agencies and family, the body of a woman who went missing over the weekend was located Monday morning in the water off Rocky Neck in Gloucester.

The body of Susan Nilsson, age 56, of Rockport was located near the Americold wharf. Her body was recovered by Gloucester Police, Gloucester Fire, and State Police CPAC and Crime Scene Services responders. It is believed that a very low tide on Monday aided in the search and recovery effort.

Nilsson was reported missing on Saturday after it is believed she was walking near Gloucester Marine Railways near Rocky Neck late Friday evening or early Saturday.

The Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner has accepted the case and will conduct an autopsy to determine cause and manner of death.

This is now a death investigation. Members of the news media should contact the Essex County District Attorney’s Office for additional updates.
