Saugus Police Accepting Applications for Civilian Police Academy

SAUGUS —  Chief Domenic DiMella announces that the Saugus Police Department is now accepting applications for the Civilian Police Academy, which will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2016 and run for nine weeks.

“The Civilian Police Academy program is a great opportunity for residents to learn about what life as a police officer is really like,” Chief DiMella said. “Anyone who has an interest in becoming a police officer or who just wants to see what it’s like behind the scenes working a beat, should take advantage of this class and sign up.”

The free program will be offered to Saugus residents age 18 and over, and is designed to bring citizens into the police station and give them a clear picture of what it’s like to be a Saugus Police Officer.

Officers will instruct classes on subjects such as domestic violence, motor vehicle law, patrol procedures, accidents, firearms awareness, juvenile and drug problems, and other topics relevant to police work. The academy will also include a police ride-along and a tour of the Middleton House of Correction.

Those who wish to register for the academy should complete an application and drop it off at the front desk of the police station, or mail it to:

Applications are due by Dec. 20, 2015. A short background check will performed for each applicant.
