Tyngsborough Police Launch Real-Time Threat Alert System

TYNGSBOROUGH — Chief Richard D. Howe is pleased to report that the Tyngsborough Police Department, after a yearlong process, will be working with schools in town to improve emergency management operations through a newly implemented communications system, COPsync911.

The process was completed through a collaborative effort between the Tyngsborough Police Department and the administration from Tyngsborough Public Schools, Innovation Academy Charter School and the Academy of Notre Dame — who will be using COPsync911.

Through COPsync911, the three school systems will be connected directly to police during incidents where safety may be threatened, reducing law enforcement’s response time while providing greater situational awareness to staff and police.

COPsync911 is the nation’s largest law enforcement real-time, information sharing communication and data interoperability network. The system, which operates on computers and smartphones by using a mobile application, allows police officers and school administrators to obtain and share information about anything from a fire to an ongoing act of violence on school grounds or inside a school building.

“This system will allow the police department to be in constant contact with schools during emergency situations,” Chief Howe said. “With real-time information, we will be able to quickly and efficiently respond to a variety of situations and work with staff to better ensure students and faculty remain safe at all times.”
