Stoneham Police Investigating Armed Robbery of Coin Shop

STONEHAM – Chief James McIntyre reports that the Stoneham Police Department is investigating the daytime armed robbery of a coin shop in town, in which two employees were allegedly hit with a stun gun.

Police responded to a panic alarm at the Colonial Trading store, located at 125 Main St. in Stoneham at 9:40 a.m.

According to the clerks, two Hispanic males came into the store under the auspices of selling a piece of jewelry. At some point, one of the suspects brandished a knife and the other pulled out a stun gun and stunned both clerks during a struggle. The clerks were tied up with zip ties, and the suspects stole a quantity of coins from the store.

One clerk was transported to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center for injuries sustained in a fall. The other clerk declined medical treatment.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Stoneham Police Detectives at 781-438-1215.
