Exeter Police Arrest Man for Assault On Child

EXETER — Chief Richard Kane reports that the Exeter Police Department arrested a man last week for assault on a child.

SOLOMON MARTINEZ, 19, OF MIDDLEBOROUGH, MASS. is charged with two counts of Second Degree Assault. MARTINEZ turned himself into the Exeter Police Department on an arrest warrant on Oct. 23.

These charges stem from an investigation into injuries suffered by a five-year-old female relative at a home that MARTINEZ was visiting in Exeter. The suspect allegedly choked the victim by placing his hands around her neck.

MARTINEZ was held at the Rockingham County Jail on $20,000 cash bail pending his arraignment.

The arrest came as a result of the Police Department’s cooperative efforts with the Child Advocacy Center, Division of Children, Youth, and Families, and the Rockingham County Attorney’s Office.

“This is a disturbing crime in which we allege that a man abused a young female relative,” Chief Kane said. “We are very grateful for the partnerships that exist between the Exeter Police Department and our counterparts in the state and county, which helped bring this suspect to justice.”

MARTINEZ was arraigned Monday in the Exeter District Court, and he is now currently held on $10,000 Cash Bail or $25,000 Cash Surety. He faces the two Class B felony charges, which, together are punishable by up to seven years in prison.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
