Chelmsford Police Department Charge High School Janitor with Larceny

CHELMSFORD — Chief James Spinney reports that the Chelmsford Police Department has charged a high school janitor with larceny after a month-long investigation into a series of instances where cash was reported missing from a cafeteria register.

JOWELL RAMOS, AGE 19, OF LAWRENCE, an employee of Aramark, is being charged with larceny from a building.

On Sept. 29, two detectives responded to Chelmsford High School for the report of a past larceny. A school administrator reported that someone had been stealing money from the cafeteria cash drawer for several weeks.

After every shift, cafeteria staff place the cash drawer in a locked closet. On several instances, employees noticed that, at the start of the morning shift, the drawer was not balanced.

Staff reported there was never any sign of forced entry into the closet. Both the cafeteria workers and the janitors have keys to the closet.

Through an investigation, Chelmsford Police were able to determine that RAMOS was the suspect. In addition to his larceny charge, RAMOS will no longer be allowed back on any Chelmsford school property.

“This is an unfortunate situation where a man allegedly stole from his place of employment on several instances,” Chief Spinney said. “I applaud the work of the detectives who were able to successfully identify the suspect in this case.”

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
