Saugus High School Secure-In-Place Lifted, Police Report No Threat to Students Found
SAUGUS — Chief Domenic DiMella reports that Saugus High School’s secure-in-place has been lifted and the Saugus Police Department found no threat to students.
The high school administration requested police assistance this morning shortly after 8:30 a.m., following an altercation between two male, juvenile students.
The parents of the students were called to the school and took custody of their children. No charges will be filed by police.
A short time after police arrived to the scene, a rumor began circulating that a student may have a firearm. At that time, around 9:30 a.m., the school administration, led by Principal Michael Hashem, issued a secure-in-place.
After police searched the area and spoke with multiple students, they confirmed that there was no weapon at the high school and no immediate threat to students.
The secure in place was lifted before 10 a.m.
“This procedure was done as a precaution to ensure students remained safe while we investigated the rumor,” Chief DiMella said. “I commend the work of the Saugus Police Department and the school administration for working collaboratively to resolve this matter quickly and efficiently while maintaining safety at all times.”
