Littleton Police Arrest Man for 5th OUI Offense

LITTLETON — Chief Matthew J. King  reports that the Littleton Police Department arrested a man last weekend for his fifth Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol offense.

RICHARD R. VILLENEUVE JR., AGE 64, OF GROTON, CONN. is charged with:

• OUI Liquor (Fifth Offense)
• Operating To Endanger
• Failure to Stop For A Police Officer
• Unlicensed Operation Of A Motor Vehicle (License suspended in Virginia for an OUI)
• Marked Lanes Violation
• Warrant out of Woburn District Court (Failure to appear for third OUI charge)

On Sunday, Sept. 20 at approximately 1:30 a.m., Officer Edmond Bussiere was on patrol and noticed a motor vehicle on Interstate 495 traveling below the speed limit and swerving between the first, second and breakdown lanes.

Officer Bussiere turned on his emergency lights and siren, and even pulled next to the vehicle with his spotlight on to get the attention of the operator, but the male driver did not pull over.

A Boxborough police officer and another Littleton officer were called into the area for assistance. Together, they were able to box-in the vehicle until it stopped.

When Officer Bussiere walked over to the vehicle, he smelled a strong odor of alcohol. The driver, identified as VILLENEUVE, also smelled of alcohol and appeared to be intoxicated.

VILLENEUVE was placed under arrest. He was held without bail at the Littleton Police Department pending his arraignment at Ayer District Court.

“This suspect acted extremely recklessly, putting his life and the lives of all other drivers on the road at stake,” Chief King said. “I’m thankful he was apprehended safely without incident. I commend the work of the Little Police Department and thank Boxborough police for their assistance.”
