Saugus Police Arrest Man for Breaking and Entering Into A Home

SAUGUS — Chief Domenic J. DiMella reports that the Saugus Police Department arrested a man last week for breaking and entering into a home while the resident was inside.

CHARLES B. BUTLER, AGE 46, OF CHELSEA, is charged with:

  • Aggravated Breaking and Entering During the Daytime
  • Larceny By Stealing In A Building
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Use of A Motor Vehicle For A Larceny/Felony

On Sept. 10, at approximately 8:30 a.m., police responded to a residence on Fiske Avenue after a woman called police to report someone was in her home.

Upon arrival, an officer noticed a white man standing on the resident’s deck and told the suspect not to move. The man, later identified as BUTLER, then sprinted from police, jumping over a fence onto Essex Street, heading toward the Square One Mall.

While Officer William Cash pursued the suspect, Patrolman Matthew Donahue headed back to the house and noticed a window was open and the blinds pushed outward as if someone had climbed out of it.

At the Square One Mall, Officer Cash detained BUTLER. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Saugus Police Department.

Police recovered several items from the Fiske Avenue residence on BUTLER, which were returned to the victim. A Chevrolet Suburban registered to BUTLER was located at the Square One Mall and towed from the scene.

“This man broke the law by showing no regard for the personal property of a resident,” Chief DiMella said. “I commend the officers involved in this incident for their hard work apprehending the suspect on what could have been a dangerous pursuit through the busy streets near the Square One Mall.”

BUTLER was held pending arraignment at Lynn District Court. Further inquiries should be directed to the Essex District Attorney’s Office.
