North Reading Police Partner with Ryer’s Store to Reward Children for “Doing the Right Thing”

NORTH READING — Chief Michael P. Murphy is pleased to announce that the North Reading Police Department is partnering with Ryer’s Store to offer children a reward for keeping safety in mind during their daily activities.
ryer's couponKen Gasse, manager at Ryer’s Store in North Reading, created $3 coupons that will be given out by police to young residents who are “caught” doing the right thing. This could include wearing a helmet while riding a bicycle, crossing the street in the crosswalk or walking on the sidewalk while on the right side of the road.

“We thought this was a great way to positively acknowledge our residents who are putting safety at the forefront of their activities,” Chief Murphy said. “We are thrilled to be working with Ryer’s Store to offer these coupons and will be in the community ready to give them out to deserving children.”

The coupon can be used on any merchandise at Ryer’s Store — from ice cream in the summer, to candy, soda or hot chocolate in the winter. Gasse plans to offer the program indefinitely.

“I think this is great idea for Ryer’s, for police and for our residents,” Gasse said. “We see it as a donation back to the police department for continuously keeping our town safe. Not only that, but we enjoy being involved in the community and this is a great way to do it.”
