Statement of Ipswich Police Chief Paul Nikas Regarding Successful Prosecution of Man in Two Restaurant Break-Ins

IPSWICH – Police Chief Paul Nikas is pleased to report a man was successfully convicted for robbing two Ipswich restaurants earlier this year.

KYLE CALLAHAN, AGE 28, OF IPSWICH, was arrested on May 15 and charged with Breaking and Entering During the Nighttime to Commit a Felony at Ithaki Restaurant.

Based on an investigation, he was also later charged with Breaking and Entering During the Nighttime to Commit a Felony and Larceny From a Building at En Fuego Restaurant on Feb. 14.

CALLAHAN was found guilty in connection with both incidents on Aug. 6 at Ipswich District Court. For the Ithaki Restaurant charges, he was sentenced 85 days in jail, with a suspended sentence for two years where where he will be on probation and is prohibited from using drugs and alcohol and will be screened randomly, required to complete substance abuse evaluation and treatment, and have to pay $650 in restitution to Ithaki Restaurant.

For the crimes committed in relation to En Fuego, CALLAHAN was sentenced to serve 18 months in a House of Correction, with that sentence also suspended pending the completion of the terms of his probation. He must also pay $3,984 in restitution to En Fuego Restaurant.

“This was a great example of smart police work keeping our community safe. The suspect in this case was arrested in relation to a breaking and entering at one restaurant and detectives were able to connect the same suspect to a breaking and entering at another restaurant months earlier. This was great detective work,” Chief Nikas said.

Chief Nikas also wishes to acknowledge  Ptl Aaron Woodworth and Ptl Charles Ciccotelli, who were the arresting officers in the case.

CALLAHAN was initially arrested when he was caught in possession of a safe outside Ithaki Restaurant in Brown Square, which was later determined to have been ripped from the bar of the restaurant. After conducting a crime scene investigation, detectives found the circumstances of this case were nearly identical to another commercial breaking and entering at En Fuego Restaurant, where the same type of electronic cash safe was stolen.
