Exeter Police Department Seeking to Hire New Patrol Officers

EXETER – Police Chief Richard Kane announces that the Exeter Police Department is looking to hire as many as three new patrol officers in the coming year.  The Department is actively seeking qualified applicants who would like to serve their community as a full-time police officer.

“The Exeter Police Department strives to provide our residents, business owners, and visitors with the highest quality of life possible, and we do that by hiring the best and most qualified candidates,” Chief Kane said. “I encourage anyone who meets our requirements and has a strong desire to serve others to apply.”

Position: Patrol Officer

Pay: $22.25-$30.29 (14 steps) + excellent benefits

Job Description: To provide efficient and effective patrol of the community in order to adequately prevent, investigate, and deter criminal activity, traffic violations, and to promote the well-being and safety of the Town.

Requirements: The ideal candidate must be physically able to carry out the essential functions of the position, work independently, communicate with others in a tactful and respectful manner, have excellent written and oral communication skills, and must be able to establish a working knowledge of all applicable state, local, and federal procedures, processes, regulations, and statues.

A qualified candidate will also understand that police officers are regularly exposed to emergency situations including severe weather conditions and hazardous materials.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree with 1-3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Sound physical condition, must be able to pass the physical fitness exam (See below)
  • Full/part-time Police Officer Certification preferred
  • Subject to an oral interview, psychological exam, polygraph exam, medical physical exam and extensive background investigation

Physical Fitness ExamAll applicants must pass the physical fitness exam in at least the 35th percentile on entrance and the 50th percentile on exit.

Written ExamA written exam prior to application is preferred, but not required. Eligible candidates may take their written exam after sending in their application. The next exam will be held Saturday September 12, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. at Great Bay Community College. Find the testing schedule here.
