Littleton Police Cite Driver in Serious Three-Car Crash

Ayer Woman, 38, Failed to Stop at Stop Sign

LITTLETON — Police Chief Matthew J. King reports that the Littleton Police Department has cited a driver after a serious crash on Sunday afternoon.

Police and fire units responded at 3 p.m. to the intersection of Willow and Ayer Roads for a reported three-car motor vehicle crash. Quickly upon arrival, police investigators determined that one of the cars involved in the crash had failed to stop or slow down at the stop sign at Willow Road, and had drive directly into the path of traffic, resulting in the crash.

The vehicle that allegedly ran the stop sign struck a sport utility vehicle traveling westbound on Ayer Road, causing that vehicle to strike another SUV that had been traveling eastbound.

A passenger in the eastbound vehicle, an 88-year-old Woburn woman, suffered head trauma and a broken leg. She was taken by medical helicopter to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester with serious injuries.

The driver of the vehicle that allegedly failed to stop at the stop sign, a 38-year-old Ayer woman, was cited at the scene for Failing to Stop at a Stop Sign and Failure to Use Care and Caution at an intersection.
