Arlington Police Investigating Robbery of Man by Online Acquaintance
ARLINGTON — Police Chief Frederick Ryan reports that the Arlington Police Department is investigating the robbery of an Arlington man, allegedly by another man whom he met via the Internet.
Arlington Police responded to a residence on Spy Pond Parkway at approximately 2 p.m. for a report that a resident had been bound and robbed.
Officers arrived quickly and spoke with the victim who had apparently been handcuffed and blindfolded by an assailant who then stole cash and the victim’s vehicle.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the victim picked up the suspect at the Alewife MBTA Station after meeting via an advertisement posted on an online classifieds service and that the handcuffs and blindfold were consensual. The suspect then stole the cash and car keys and left the residence.
“This does not appear to be a random act of violence, and we do not want residents to be in fear for their safety,” Chief Ryan said. “We are actively investigating this incident.”
Arlington Police put out a broadcast for officers in the area and neighboring communities to be on the lookout for a black 2008 Ford Edge that was missing from the residence. The vehicle was recovered a short time later near the Alewife MBTA Station, and police believe he may have boarded a train from the area.
The suspect is described as a tall white man, weighing about 200 lbs. with a neck tattoo. He is approximately 30-35 years old and was last seen wearing Boston Celtics clothing.
The incident is under investigation by the Arlington Police Department.
