Man, 26, Sustained Serious Injuries
LITTLETON — Police Chief Matthew J. King reports that the Littleton Police Department responded this morning to a report of a tree worker struck by a piece of a tree he was working on.
Littleton Police and Fire responded to an address on New Estate Road at 9:07 a.m. First responders arrived within two minutes of the original 911 call and located the victim, who was working on an 80-foot pine tree when a section of the treetop fell and struck him in the head. The section was approximately 5-feet long and 8-10 inches in diameter.
The victim, a 26-year-old Ayer man, sustained serious, life-threatening injuries. Littleton Firefighters performed CPR, and the victim was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester via medical helicopter.
The worker is employed by MEZ Tree Company, of Harvard.
The incident is under investigation. Littleton Police are working with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
