Ipswich Drug Investigation Nets 20-Year-Old Alleged Dealer with Four Kinds of Drugs

IPSWICH – Police Chief Paul A. Nikas reports that an aggressive investigation by the Ipswich Police Department has netted a young suspect and many different kinds of drugs taken off the streets.

As a result of the investigation, JASON T. DISKIN, AGE 20, OF IPSWICH has been charged with:

• Possession of a Class A Substance (Heroin)
• Possession of a Class B Substance with Intent to Distribute (MDMA)
• Possession of a Class B Substance with Intent to Distribute (“Bath Salts” Amphetamines)
• Possession of a Class B Substance with Intent to Distribute (LSD)
• Disturbing the Peace
• Being a Minor in Possession of Alcohol
• Possession of Counterfeit Currency (5 Counts)

The case began March 26, when officers responded to a call for a drunk male banging on doors on the north side of town. Ipswich patrol officers responded  Officers found DISKIN walking around, carrying a backpack. His pupils were very dilated, his speech was slurred, and officers saw a bottle of vodka sticking out of the backpack. A search of the backpack revealed a mason jar with cash and several plastic bags of white and brown powdery substances and a rocky, crystal substance. A small scale was also located in the backpack.

The money was found to be counterfeit, based on officer’s suspicions about the serial numbers that were later confirmed by the United States Secret Service.

DISKIN claimed that an unknown person left the backpack outside his front door. However, the backpack had the initials JTD stitched into it.

DISKIN was arrested at that time.

Ipswich Police Detective Edward Gallivan began assembling a case and conducting an investigation. He was able to take out a search warrant on DISKIN’S home, which was served on Wednesday, April 22.

Police searched the home and found a number of different kinds of drugs, small plastic bags, syringes, a glass pipe, clear gel caps, and other drug paraphernalia.

DISKIN will be arraigned today in Ipswich District Court at Newburyport.

“This is not simply a case of mere possession. This individual was preparing to package and distribute a high volume of extremely dangerous drugs into the neighborhoods of Ipswich and into our surrounding communities,” Chief NIkas said. “I am very proud of my officers for being vigilant in their duties and getting these dangerous drugs out of the community.”

Chief Nikas would like to acknowledge Detective Gallivan for his hard work on the case, and also Officers David Moore and Aaron Woodworth, for their sharp observations and professionalism when they arrived on scene on March 26. He also thanks the United States Secret Service for their assistance.

“This level of cooperation and trust between patrol officers on the street and narcotics detectives is essential in combating the ever evolving illicit drug trade,” Chief Nikas said. “The Ipswich Police Department is committed to arresting and prosecuting those people who profit from the illegal distribution of narcotics by selling to our citizens.”
