Saugus Police Department to Participate in Domestic Violence Awareness Walk

SAUGUS – Police Chief Domenic DiMella and the Saugus Police department are proud to announce their participation in the 23rd Annual Healing Abuse Working for Change (HAWC) Walk on April 26, 2015.

The only one of its kind in the Commonwealth, Walk for HAWC is a three mile walk that raises funds for domestic violence awareness.  The Saugus Police Department is 60 percent of the way to their goal of raising $2,500.

“Domestic violence is a prevalent issue in today’s society and as police officers, we see how devastating these crimes can be,” Chief DiMella said.  “HAWC does amazing work to raise awareness about domestic violence and we hope our participation will help to make this issue a public one, rather than a private one.”

HAWC reports that one out of four women will experience abuse during their lifetime and one in four GLBTQ relationships is abusive.
